THE HUMANS BY STEPHEN KARAM

Directed by Steve Minow

January 27 & 28, 2023

The Humans tells the timeless story of family: a group of people who love each other, but are wrestling to understand life’s uncertain thumps-in-the-dark. As the Blake family gathers for a Thanksgiving meal, they confront huge changes in their lives with both disillusionment and hope -- and with a wry humor -- looking in the face of basic human fears: aging, abandonment,
insecurity, and death.

featuring Michael Cross, Anne Applegate, Jackie Schultz, Gillian Rains, Jessy Stein, & Marco Tabayoyon

LICKED BY DENI SCOFIELD

Directed by Deni Scofield

February 3 & 4, 2023

Mr. Duffy doesn’t show up for work and his students are a bit confused, especially when they check out his house and his car is still parked out front.  A substitute teacher shows up and the tension builds.  Where’s Mr. Duffy?  What’s happening in the town?  What’s up with their friends?

LICKED focuses on the idea that emotions can be so debilitating that they undermine human interaction, leading to rash decisions, and, ultimately, destroying society.  How can they be so good and yet so devastating at the same time? Perhaps we would be better humans if we could free ourselves from the “Rollercoaster of Emotions” and no longer be victim to its lows or highs?  Hmm…giving up the lows is easy, but giving up the highs?  Now, that’s hard to do, but maybe it would be worth giving up the highs of happiness if we could rid ourselves of sadness, depression, and defeat.  What might it be like if one was “freed” from ALL emotional manipulation?   The quest began and LICKED became the journey.  Confirmation:  What a BIG, WONDEFUL MESS OF EMOTIONS WE HUMANS ARE…AND THAT’S SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE.  Walt Whitman knew what he was talking about when he said, "I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable, I sound my barbaric yawp over the roofs of the world."
